Often WE hear that "music tamed the wild beast" (originally referring to a specific Monster in a fable), but in recent times it more commonly refers to a person, adult or child, who (for whatever the reason or cause) is; unruly, unreasonable, upset, violent, mean-spirited, hot-headed, ill of mind or ill of body, grief stricken, obsessively depressed, bad, just plain evil! Sometimes, even today, it does refer to an animal as well, most frequently a pet with a temperament.
Whichever, it is remarkable how music penetrates through the layers of cause and circumstance, reaches where and when no other has been as successful, and touches (as if by Divine intervention), the very Soul and brings calm to such altered state!
Music, in so many a varied form, can turn a rioting mob into a passive crowd with smiles upon their faces and joy within their hearts. It can rally a NATION into action, stimulate intense thought or emotion, cause people to leap to their feet and dance the night away or fall fast asleep for a rest so long denied! Music can restore a thought lost love by returning a mind or heart to a place near forgotten, but ever so desired and cherished!
Music is a gift from GOD which allows all living things to experience a bit of Heaven while alive on Earth!
Are not the hands of a Musician HEALING HANDS when their hands play upon instrument creating so wonderful a sound to many a varied ear, allowing and stimulating such wonderful reaction, thought or feeling?
Are not the hands of a Musician HEALING HANDS when providing those without voice a means to be heard, a form of expression that conveys that which is within their heart or on their mind?
Are not the hands of a Musician HEALING HANDS when "their music tames the wild beast"?
Are not the hands of a Musician HEALING HANDS when their music, in whatever the form, reaches within one or all, causing a smile to appear, a tear of joy, a glimmer of HOPE, a reason to hold on to a FAITH or BELIEF near lost and now found?
Are not the hands of a musician HEALING HANDS when their music reminds us of the beauty and the blessings with which WE have been blessed, and reminds US of one of OUR greatest blessings bestowed upon man by GOD, the FREEDOM to CHOOSE that which OUR HANDS DO?
On one Christmas eve during WORLD WAR ONE, Trench Warfare had already felt as if it had raged on and on forever. Success or advancement by either side, German or Allied, was measured in mere feet of ground gained. Mustard Gas, a terrible and extremely painful weapon that did not discriminate, often blowing back upon the very troops that dispensed it, killed and savagely burned and disfigured soldiers on both sides of the trenches, caused the bodies to fall and rot where they may. Between the trenches, in no mans land, lay many a man that no more would stand! Both sides watched as rats ate the bodies, the stink of rotting flesh filled all their noses, the mud stained forever red with rivers of blood. HELL WAS ON EARTH WITH NO END IN SIGHT!
Then, on that one Christmas Eve, a quiet did come as if by design without one word being said. For hundreds and hundreds of miles where battles raged night and day, where screams of pain and agony filled the air and tortured one's ears, silence came all at once! So silent was it, oh so silent was the night! Gone was worry, gone was fright!
From one place within a German trench, one single voice of one soldier started to sing "Silent Night", in minutes the song echoed form the lips of many stretching near across an entire country. A war stopped and took a break. Soldiers on both sides dared to stand and walked across dead man's land and shook hands. Music tamed the dog of WAR, and man "choose to HEAL so savagely a near beaten heart"!
Were not the hands of those united in song, HEALING HANDS? Did not man benefit from the music that filled the air?
And if all these be the case, was not / is not GOD'S HAND at work as well?
DARE TO BE DIFFERENT, DARE TO BE TRUE, DARE TO BE BOLD, DARE TO BE YOU! WE are all significant, each and every one of US. WE all have HANDS that can HEAL if WE "choose" to hear that which is within OUR heart and participate! So very much can be done! Shall WE begin?
